PROJECTS

MINE CLOSURE PLANNING

Artois Consulting was contracted to evaluate different options for pit closure.  Following a detailed analysis of the groundwater rebound behavior and the ARD potential, a transient numerical flow and transport model was constructed to simulate the effect of the in-pit disposal of tailings on the local groundwater regime.

EXCAVATION DEWATERING

In order to improve the connection between water bearing fractures within the basement rock, Artois Consulting was retained to identify the corridors for artificial permeability enhancement using conventional mine blasting techniques and hydraulic fracturing.

MINE SITE WATER MANAGEMENT

The client needed to reduce water treatment volumes.  Based on detailed catchment run-off models and statistical simulations, we presented new storm water run-off designs to reduce the on-site water storage volumes and shorten the water retention times within the drainage circuit.

ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE

Mining projects are commonly located in watersheds where different users compete for the limited water resources.  Artois Consulting provided regional numerical models in support of the environmental impact assessment.  In association with the regulators, compliance points were established and monitored over a 3-year period as input to the EIA.
